Training Review - Week 31 - July 28 to Aug 2

Monday I started the morning with an easy recovery jog. This was meant to just clear out my legs from racing but it turns out they aren't that bad. This just reinforces my disappointment with my race yesterday. I should have been struggling this morning but my legs were fine.

I went to swimming in the evening but it was even worse than last week. I missed chunks of the warm up and then as soon as we started the main set I started to get a stabbing pain in my knee as I pushed out of every turn and I had to quit.

Tuesday I did a yoga set in the morning to see how my knee felt but I couldn't really tell from that. I decided to go to the TT in the evening even though I didn't feel great. I could write a whole report for it but it wasn't that exciting. I rode a lot better than I had on Sunday, but still struggled and that infuriating but intermittent braking problem is back. Having seen the results I am losing about a minute every 5 miles on people I should be racing.

Wednesday I started with an easy jog around Dyce and then a yoga session. I was really tired even jogging round so after spending a chunk of the afternoon studying I decided to skip my planned trip to Knockburn and replace it with a pool swim later in the week. This will leave me short of swim target for the week but I will still have three swims in, including a 1,500m race distance.

Thursday I jogged to the pool, did 10 x 100m which were all completely terrible, and then jogged home again. I am completely exhausted. I am going to try and take 2 proper rest days before racing at Knockburn on Sunday in the hope that it is just a short term fatigue problem.

Friday I did a little bit of stretching and rollering in the morning and then tried to keep the rest of the day as lazy as possible.

Saturday I did a yoga session and tried to have another lazy day. Went to lunch with granny then spent the afternoon checking and rechcking my gear for Sunday. As the rain started to pour down in the afternoon I checked the forecast again. it still says bright and clear with a gentle breeze for race time on Sunday.

Sunday's Knockburn Triathlon will get a report to itself.

This week I went through 500 running miles for the year, way ahead of my targets and now comfortably on course for 800 miles and my longest running year ever. Last week I went through 1,500 bike miles and am now comfortably on course for 2,500 and my longest cycling year ever. And also last week I went through 60 swimming miles and even with the odd bad week in here I am still going to easily have my longest swim year ever and it looks like I might even get to the 100 mile mark.

However, the big numbers are now turning into a problem as I am just empty when it comes to races. Also I am way past the point where I would trade all the miles for a job.
